Campesinxs

Campesinxs (Farmers) engage with Norris Square Neighborhood Project’s ½ acre of land by hosting monthly, community-led workshops about planting, growing, and harvesting crops. About 20 local gardeners rent sizeable plots in our Las Parcelas garden. Gardeners swap seeds and skills and work together to grow their gardens.

Requirements for Campesinxs

★ Must be 18 years of age or older to have a garden plot of their own

★ Must live within the area bound by Berks Street to the South, Lehigh Avenue to the North, Front Street to the East, and 5th Street to the West

★ Members must pay an annual fee on a sliding scale between $15 and $50 for an individual, personal plot.

★ Institutional plots (churches, nonprofits, schools, etc.) will be subject to a $30 annual fee to accommodate multiple-person use and access. If an institution uses more than one plot, a $20 annual fee will be charged for each additional plot.

Benefits of Membership

★ Access to Las Parcelas and other NSNP gardens

★ Access to water, tools, and kitchen

★ Ability to vote on garden matters (voting is limited to one (1) vote per member)

★ Institutional plot members will not be permitted to vote without special permission of general membership present (including other institutional members)

★ Use of herbs in herb beds

★ Use of produce grown in common plots (with regard to shared nature of plot)

★ Access to garden for up to two (2) private events of 20 people (max)

★ Institutions may host more than two (2) events with more than 20 people on a case-by-case basis. Institutions must consult with the Urban Gardens Manager before any event is scheduled or advertised..

Membership Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

★ Members planting and maintaining their plot on a regular basis

★ Members cleaning up after their private events. The garden must be as clean as it was before the start of an event.
